How we approach a hoarding cleanout

Slowly at first, then steadily. We start with a walk-through so we can price the whole job honestly and so you can show us what stays. Then we work one room at a time, from the door inward, so there is always a clear path.

Every bag and box is sorted before it goes on the trailer. Important papers, photos, money, jewelry, medications and anything that looks like it matters go into labeled boxes for you. Usable furniture, clothing and household goods go to donation. Spoiled food and true trash get bagged and hauled.

We bring masks, gloves and bags. We do not bring judgment. Everyone on our crew understands that this is a person’s home.

Who we work with

Family members trying to help a parent. Property managers who need a unit back. Social workers and case managers coordinating a move. The person who lives there, who has decided it is time. We work with all of them, and we take direction from whoever is in charge of the situation.

What we cannot do

Biohazard cleanup, which means sharps, bodily fluids or animal waste in quantity, needs a licensed remediation company. Active pest infestations should be treated before we start so the problem does not travel with the load. Structural damage, sagging floors, and mold behind walls need a contractor. We will tell you honestly if any of those are what we are looking at, and help you find the right people.

Hoarding Cleanouts questions

Is it private?

Yes. Our trailer has no company lettering. We do not talk to neighbors. We do not photograph anything except the before and after we send to you.

How do you handle things that might be important?

We sort. Papers, photographs, mail, cash, jewelry and anything that looks like a keepsake go into boxes for you, not the trailer. If you or a family member want to be present for sorting, that is welcome. If you would rather not be, we sort carefully and bring you the boxes.

How do you price a hoarding cleanout?

For a heavy cleanout we come look, free, rather than pricing from photos. We give you one firm number for the whole job. It does not go up on the day.

Can you work with a social worker, a family member or a property manager?

Yes. A lot of these jobs are coordinated by someone other than the person who lives there. We are used to that and we are patient with everyone involved.
