How donation pickup works

Text photos of what you want to donate. We send a flat price for the pickup and delivery. On the day, we load it, drive it to the right charity, and bring you the receipt. Anything the charity will not take, we haul as junk in the same trip, so nothing comes back to your house.

Where things go

The Habitat ReStore on Roane Street in Northside and on Mall Drive in Chesterfield takes furniture, cabinets, doors, tile, lighting and appliances. The money builds houses in Richmond. Goodwill of Central Virginia takes household goods, small appliances, books and electronics. The Richmond SPCA thrift store takes smaller household items and pet supplies.

We already stop at these places on most jobs, because we donate first on every load. A dedicated donation pickup is just a trip where all of it is going there.

Honest about what is donatable

Charities take things they can sell. A solid dresser, yes. A particleboard bookcase with a broken shelf, no. A working microwave, yes. A mattress, never. We will tell you what is likely to be accepted, and whatever is not, we haul.

Donation Pickup questions

Where does it go?

Furniture and building materials to the Habitat ReStore. Household goods and working appliances to Goodwill of Central Virginia. Pet supplies and small items to the Richmond SPCA thrift. You can tell us a preference.

Do I get a receipt?

Yes. We bring you the donation receipt from the charity, or a photo of it by text.

Why not just call the charity for a free pickup?

You should try. Goodwill and the ReStore do schedule pickups, but the wait can be weeks and they are selective about what they take. We come this week, take the whole lot, and haul anything they will not accept.

What if some of it is junk?

That is the usual case. We sort on the truck. Usable things go to donation, the rest goes to the county facility, and you pay one price for the trip.
