How a crawl space cleanout works
Send a photo through the access door, and tell us roughly how tall the space is. If it is a big or a low one, we come look, free, and give you one firm price.
On the day, we bring lights, masks, gloves, knee pads and contractor bags. Everything gets bagged in the crawl space and passed out through the door, so nothing tracks through the house. Lumber and brick go to the debris pile. Insulation and vapor barrier get bagged. Metal gets recycled.
We leave the ground clear and the access door closed.
Crawl spaces in older Richmond houses
A lot of houses in Northside, Lakeside, Mechanicsville and the older parts of Chesterfield have crawl spaces that became the dumping ground for every renovation since the house was built. Cut-off lumber, broken brick, the old furnace ductwork, and the bottles from whoever did the plumbing in 1978. All of it holds moisture and feeds pests.
Clearing it is the first step before an encapsulation, a termite treatment or a drainage fix, and those contractors will tell you so.
What needs a different trade
Standing water needs a drainage or sump solution before we go in. Mold on the joists is a remediation job. Encapsulation is its own contractor. We clear the space so those people can do their work, and we will say plainly if that is what you need.
