How a garage cleanout works
Open the door, take a photo from the driveway, and text it to us. That one picture is usually enough for a firm price. If there is a loft or a back corner we cannot see, send a second one.
On the day, we back the trailer up to the door and go. Anything you have set aside stays. Usable tools, bikes and sporting goods go to the donation side for Goodwill or the ReStore. Scrap metal, old shelving, a dead mower, goes to a recycler. Everything else goes to the county facility for your address. We sweep the floor before we leave.
Most two-car garages take us about two hours and one trailer. A garage that has been the family storage unit for twenty years might take two loads, and we tell you that before we start.
What comes out of a Richmond garage
Leftover material from a renovation. The bikes the kids outgrew. A lawn mower that has not started in three summers. Boxes from the last move that never got opened. A treadmill. Paint cans from every color the house has ever been.
It is the same in Tuckahoe, Bon Air and Mechanicsville. Garages fill up. We empty them.
The paint question
This is the one thing that catches people. Dry latex paint is fine and goes with us. Wet oil-based paint, stains, thinners and gasoline are household hazardous waste, and we cannot put them on the trailer. Richmond and the counties each run drop-off days or sites for that. Ask us and we will tell you the closest one.
