How appliance removal works

Text a photo and tell us where it is: kitchen, basement, garage, second floor. We send back one price that includes the carry, the Freon handling and whatever your county charges to accept it.

Empty the appliance and unplug it before we arrive. If it is a fridge or freezer, leave the door open the night before so it is dry. We disconnect the water line on a washer or an ice maker, dolly it out, and load it.

Working appliances go to Goodwill of Central Virginia, which accepts them. Dead ones go to the county facility, where the metal is recovered.

The Freon rule

Refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers contain refrigerant, and Virginia does not allow it to be vented. The county facilities handle those units separately and charge for it. We take them, we pay the fee, and it is in your price. You do not need to find someone to drain it first.

Where they go

Chesterfield’s convenience centers on Warbro Road and Landfill Drive, Henrico’s public use areas on Springfield Road and Charles City Road, and Richmond’s East Richmond Road center all accept appliances from haulers. We use the one nearest your address.

Appliance Removal questions

Do you take refrigerators with Freon?

Yes. Fridges, freezers, window units and dehumidifiers are handled as Freon appliances at the county facility, and that handling is in our price. You do not need to have it drained first.

Does the county charge for appliances?

Chesterfield charges $10 per appliance, or $15 with Freon, at its convenience centers. Henrico and Richmond have their own rules. Whatever the fee is for your address, it is already in the price we text you.

Can you get a fridge out of the basement?

Yes. We bring an appliance dolly and straps. Tell us the stairs and we plan for them.

Do you disconnect it?

Water lines and plugs, yes. Gas lines should be capped by a plumber or the gas company before we come. Hardwired units should be disconnected by an electrician.
